Thanks to All who attended our Halloween Party!
It was a blast as we had a great crowd. The costumes were amazing and a good time had by all. Thanks to all who brought food along. We had such a good time that we can't wait to have another one. Perhaps next year we will have our Boo fest again for the kiddies.
11/3/08 More work was done on the gate and cemetery columns but still not done and ready for the yard. We played with lighting a bit, trying out energy efficient CFL outdoor floods this year that I have painted with green glass paint. Using these bulbs will reduce our watts used so they can be either saved or used elsewhere. We put up a scene setter border around the front of the house today, added a half buried small blucky, lighted skull and bones, a pumpkin and some lights on the sides of the garage. Just need to get that gate and columns done.
While we were outside, we had a neighbor that walks his beautiful Doberman come by and complement us on our setup and told us that he loves watching us put it up. (he likes our Christmas display too, but we won't talk about that here on this Halloween page, LOL) We love hearing about how people enjoy the setup, we don't do it for just us after all! 8/14/08

R.I.P. Jessica Hawk 1976-2008 You are missed
Well we had some bad news reach us on August 21st. A dear friend Jessica Hawk was murdered. She was living in New Orleans and someone stabbed her to death in her home August 9th. She was a free spirit who didn't deserve such a horrible death. May her killer be found and Justice served!

It has been a stretch since our last update. Now Halloween is over and our cleanup has begun. Our party on the 25th was a hit and Trick or Treat was AWESOME! Unfortunately we did not get all the decorations done and up for our party, and there were still touches we wish we had done for trick or treat, but my fellow haunters will understand that there are always things you don't get to and there is always more you want to do. Some of the remarks from TOT night include: "You should charge admission", "You guys get bigger and better every year", and my personal favorite "It's so great to see someone care so much for the Holiday". The kids loved it as much as the adults and it was a blast. We still have one girl in the neighborhood who we have yet to give candy to. She comes around before Halloween and checks out the yard, but when it comes to TOT, she won't come near it :-) . We are preparing to add plenty of pictures from the party and Halloween. If you have pictures from either event that you would like to send us, just shoot us an email. As we tear down we are already making some plans for next year.

We finally got the columns and gate done and put into the yard last night after dark. Today we adjusted them and put a blue floodlight on them. We love them! We have added a few additional details around the yard, but nothing you can easily see in pictures. We are still working on three other projects in the garage and only have a week till our costume party, lots to do and so little time.

Today we finally got out most of the tombstones, a total of 33 now stand in our yard. Four standing bluckies now add some character to the cemetery, one is about to jump the fence. There is still a large hole in part of the cemetery for the mausoleum that is coming. Our columns and gate are still being worked on in the garage. But it is finally starting to come together. Shortly after cleaning up from today’s setup, a car came by, stopped and looked, that always makes it so worth it, seeing people stop and look!

So we finally began outside setup. We didn't get much done besides the fence, but it feels good none the less. We still have the columns and gate to complete and put out as well as all the tombstones and other props to add to the yard. Lighting always takes a while to perfect. Below are a few pictures of the setup that we completed today, I am sure the layout will change with the addition of other props. Right now the ground is so hard as we have not had much rain in so long that it hampered our ability to get the tombstones out today. So watering of the yard will have to be done.

Due to Hurricane Ike winds that blew through our area, we are way behind on preparing for Halloween. We had a huge tree in our back yard that we lost and took a long time for clean up. Luckily no damage other than losing our huge shade tree. Right now we are working on our cemetery fence, columns and gate. We also have plans to build quite a few other things, that won't take too long after the fence is done. Our ambitions are high, and excitement is even higher for the party and Trick or Treat. We keep thinking of other things we want to add and build but only have so much money and time. Right now we are planning our outdoor setup for October 4th. A little disappointing as we love to do it on the first but due to work schedules and the fence not being done (because of Ike), we have to give ourselves a few more days. We will post pictures of progress once we begin setup.

Lots of planning underway, we have pulled out all of our totes and are in the process of setting up inside. We pulled out our 6ft mummy and set him up inside, Emma wasn't so sure of him at first, but now she loves playing with him. Of course inside setup will not be complete until the party starts on the 25th, always some tweaking to do. We have picked up some PVC and boards to work on some projects, thanks to freecycle. We have pulled out our fence boards to determine how many more we will need and how much 1/2 inch pvc we will need to build our fence the way we want it to be. Tiny skulls have been purchased to be fence toppers. Something new this year, we have to decorate the back yard, at least to some degree due to the party and if the weather is good we can be outside. We are so excited about this year. Gary is building something for the roof, Doug is working on the fence and I will work on cemetery columns. I have wanted columns for years now. Our neighbors are giving us a mannequin which we can't wait to dress up.
Well so far we are in the planning process still. We have acquired some new props this year at yard sales and thrift stores. We are building some new ones also, but we are trying to figure out which ones are most important. We know we have to rebuild our fence from last year, and we feel the need to add security cameras as we are concerned with people messing with things. Our plan is to set up as usual around the beginning of October, although we have already begun decorating the inside of the house. 7 of the smaller totes have been pulled out of storage so far, that is only a fraction of the props/decorations we have. So keep checking back soon to see what we post as new this year!
